Projects

Target groups
In order to give you an overview of the diversity of the tasks at hand, we would like to introduce you to the various projects. These projects are being carried out with various target groups:
1. Community groups / rural areas (e.g. the Massai)
The Massai - female genital mutilation is still practiced in this community to an extent of 95%; here. Women are not considered fully-fledged members of community and are, as such, incapacitated; a community in which the husband has the right to exert violence on his wives (the Massai lead polygamous lives).
To sensitise the Massai community to the sexual equality and rights of women through awareness-training. Medical and psychological care for circumcised Massai women and other women (including assistance at birth).
2. Mixed groups
Women, youth, groups living in the cities and in rural areas (villages)
• Women in general - there is an extremely high degree of sexual inequality in the East-African society. Marriages are often marked by violence and oppression.
Providing consulting for the women with regard to their rights. Organizing seminars and workshops in order to build up their self-confidence.
• the youth - as a jeopardised target group
Awareness building and prevention training with regard to alcohol and drug abuse, and the spread of HIV.
3. Single mothers
Single mothers are accorded lower significance in the African society and have to struggle for the survival of their children on a daily basis.
Advice on and the procurement of loans for the set up of a small trade (e.g. sale of cloth or produce) and the attempt at enabling these women to keep themselves and their children under appropriate conditions.
4. Orphans and street children
Nurture and the placement of these children. Counselling and placement of orphans and street children, making house calls, providing help with the maintenance of children.
5. School children (Primary school, further education)
Awareness training on the issue of HIV/Aids, alcohol and drug abuse, sex education, creating awareness of traditions that violate human rights.
6. Community based organisations (CBOs)
E.g. the disabled and the sick (in particular AIDS patients) - who are often ostracized by society and whose suffering is seen as a punishment by God.
Awareness training and public relations for the elimination of stereotypes and myths in society. Providing comfort for those affected as well advice and awareness-training about health care and medical treatment.
